Hysterium Pinastri

Solo exhibition at Gallery Bokboden Feb. 2018

The text-part of the piece:

I do not reluctantly admit the causal relationship to this, but I seek reason in ordinary morbidity.

Parts are beginning to yellow

affected by frost

Time feeds it

Gray-black layers begin to grow

Favorable conditions generate the spinning of fine threads

They penetrate the interior

Spreading

Dampness is promising conditions

It matures

sprouts wherever possible

It seeks complete access

It has spread too far making cleansing impossible. Using unleased lime, I attempt to remove and collect the material.

Currently they fall off right away

Good parts are lost

The complicated organization

It wishes for a different host

Alternate attacks

They leave my shape

An empty shield

Incapable

Sculpture-installation: 4 x 2½ x 2 m. Sound/text: 9.40 min.

This installation contain a sculpture  and a text that is recorded and played aloud in the installation-space. It is made of woodcut-graphic on thin rice-paper, fabric, latex and treads.

It is an abstract shape, created by the threads it is hanged in, the structure, and heaviness of the different fabric-use. The sculpture is a visual interpretation of the text and it adds a bodily element/experience to the piece.

The text is created with the use of a book about fungus-diseases on plants. The title ‘Hysterium Pinastri’ is the Latin name of a fungus disease, but it can also imply references and thoughts about ‘hysteria’: “exaggerated or uncontrollable emotion or excitement”.
